I’ve discovered that every small business owner needs two things: a good sense of humour... and Adam, aka The Running Bookkeeper. Once upon a time my books were reasonably well behaved. I’m Adam, the owner of The Running Bookkeeper. I started the business after working in the building and cabinet-making industry and developing an interest in bookkeeping and small business. I now help small businesses keep their books organised, up to date and easier to understand. I work mainly with tradies, cleaners, creatives and other small businesses, with a strong focus on Xero.

FAQ's

What bookkeeping services do you offer?

I provide bookkeeping support tailored to your business, including transaction processing, bank reconciliations, invoicing, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, reporting, Xero setup and clean-ups. I can also assist with BAS preparation and related work under the supervision of a registered BAS agent.

Do you work with businesses outside Victoria?

Yes. Although I’m based in Victoria, I work with businesses across Australia. Most bookkeeping can be handled remotely, with communication through phone, email and online platforms.

Do you specialise in any particular types of businesses?

I work with a range of small businesses, with a particular interest in working with tradies, creatives and service-based businesses. If you’re unsure whether I’m the right fit, get in touch and we can have a chat about what you need.

Do you work with Xero?

Yes. Xero is my preferred accounting platform, and I’m a Xero Certified Advisor. I can help with new Xero setups, ongoing bookkeeping, troubleshooting and cleaning up an existing file.

Can you clean up my existing Xero file?

Yes. If your bookkeeping has fallen behind or your Xero file has become difficult to manage, I can work through the issues and get things back into shape. I’ll first review the file and explain what needs to be done before starting the clean-up.

Can you lodge my BAS?

I can assist with BAS preparation and related bookkeeping under the supervision of a registered BAS agent. BAS lodgements are completed by the registered BAS agent.

How much does bookkeeping cost?

Every business is different, so I don’t use a one-size-fits-all pricing model. Pricing depends on things such as the number of transactions, payroll, invoicing and the level of support you need. After understanding your business, I can provide a clear quote for the work required.

Do you offer ongoing monthly bookkeeping?

Yes. Ongoing bookkeeping can be arranged on a monthly basis and tailored to the level of support your business needs. We can also review the arrangement as your business changes.

Can you help if I’m behind with my bookkeeping?

Absolutely. Catching up overdue bookkeeping is something I regularly help with. I can assess where things are up to, identify what needs attention and work through the backlog with you.

Can you work with my accountant?

Yes. I’m happy to work alongside your accountant or other professional advisers. Good communication between your bookkeeper and accountant can make things much easier, particularly around BAS, year-end work and keeping your records accurate.

Do you offer payroll services?

Yes. I can assist with setting up and managing payroll, including employee setup, pay runs and keeping payroll records organised.

What accounting software do you work with?

Xero is my primary platform, but I also have experience working with other accounting and business software. If you’re already using a different system, let me know what you’re using and we can discuss your options.

What if I’m not sure what bookkeeping help I need?

That’s completely fine. You don’t need to know exactly what needs to be done before getting in touch. We can look at where your business is currently at and work out what support would make the most sense.
